What is High School Placement?
The role of KIPP High School Placement is to assist the family with the process of applying to high schools. We build strong relationships with both local and boarding schools, and work hard to make the process as clear and efficient as possible for both families and schools.
Students may be eligible to apply to public schools, which are free, or private schools, which charge tuition. Students apply to private high schools in the fall of their 8th grade year and to the magnet lottery in the spring of their 8th grade year.
Schools evaluate students based on grades, standardized test scores, student activities, teacher recommendations, and a student essay/application.
Family’s Role:
1. Commit to learning about all high school options
2. Stay informed about all paperwork, deadlines, and events
3. Complete applications, forms, and financial aid information and return them promptly
4. Stay involved in the application process by attending meetings and counseling your student
