KIPP through College is a college access program designed to support graduates of KIPP Academy Nashville middle school to and through college matriculation. From the summer of their 9th grade year, students attend workshops designed to enhance their success in high school and prepare them for college admission. In addition, they earn fun fieldtrips based on the time spent involved in extra-curricular activities and community service.
Over 90 percent of KIPPsters live in East Nashville and qualify for free and reduced lunch. Despite the odds stacked against them, our students are high performers, surpassing neighboring schools in math and reading on the TCAP for the past several years. Additionally, from the time they were in the 5th grade, our students have learned to “work hard, be nice, and be honest” and to embrace the values of teamwork, respect, responsibility, humility, and excellence. In their 8th grade year, over 50 percent of the class of 2013 was accepted into independent schools locally and nationally. Ninety-nine percent were accepted in to college preparatory high schools.
